SVCD

Now you can learn everything you always wanted to know about a SVCD, right from the convenience of your home. Our web site has all the complete information on SVCD. SVCD is short for "Super Video CD". Similar to a VCD, a SVCD has a capacity of about 35-60 minutes on 74/80 min CDs of very good quality full-motion video, along with up to 2 stereo audio tracks, and 4 selectable subtitles.

Backwards compatible with VCD 1.1, 2.0, and 3.0, SVCD supports higher resolutions and 2.2Mbps variable bit rate (VBR) MPEG-2 video encoding, and MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 audio encoding. SVCD has a higher resolution of 480x576 (PAL) and 480x480 (NTSC), compared to the VCD's resolution of 352x288 (PAL).

SVCD supports 5.1 audio, but not the Dolby 5.1. Any CD-ROM drive with 2x, or a faster rate, can be used to read SVCDs. The video bit rate of a SVCD is normally higher than that of a video CD. Though one SVCD disc usually contains 35-40 minutes of video, the number of minutes it can hold video can be increased by reducing the bit rate. Just like a DVD video, SVCD can contain multiple audio streams, subtitles, still images, multi-level hierarchical menus, and chapters.

Authoring your own SVCDs is relatively easy as most of the new CD burning applications already support SVCD. SVCD can be played on most of the standalone DVD Players, check the compatibility list here. All CD-ROMS and DVD ROMS with a software DVD/SVCD-Player can play SVCDs.

The quality of play with SVCD depends on the number of minutes you choose to store on a CD. The lesser the storage minutes, the higher the quality will be. SVCDs are becoming very popular among movie studios as well. Whether you are looking for famous SVCD brands, SVCD help, or anything else you wish to know about a SVCD, simply count on us.
