VCD SVCD

For everything you wish to know about VCD SVCD, you have come to the right place on the Internet. Our web site has all the complete information on VCD SVCD. Whether you wish to know how to add data to VCD SVCD, how many minutes of video fits on a VCD SVCD, or the programs that are best to use to make a VCD SVCD, we can be your one-stop destination for any information you need to know.

While a VCD is short for 'Video Compact Disc', SVCD stands for `Super Video CD'. A VCD looks just like a music/audio CD with the only difference being that it can play videos. Usually, a VCD has a capacity to hold up to 74/80 minutes on 650MB/700MB CDs respectively. A VCD can hold a full-motion video along with quality stereo sound.

Similar to a VCD, a SVCD has a capacity of about 35-60 minutes on 74/80 min CDs of very good quality full-motion video, along with up to 2 stereo audio tracks and also 4 selectable subtitles. Backwards compatible with VCD 1.1, 2.0, and 3.0, SVCD supports higher resolutions and 2.2Mbps variable bit rate (VBR) MPEG-2 video encoding, and MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 audio encoding.

SVCD has a higher resolution of 480x576 (PAL) and 480x480 (NTSC), compared to the VCD's resolution of 352x288 (PAL). Though one SVCD disc usually contains 35-40 minutes of video, the number of minutes it can hold  can be increased by reducing the bit rate.

Just like a DVD video, SVCD can contain multiple audio streams, subtitles, still images, multi-level hierarchical menus, and chapters, etc. Authoring your own SVCDs is relatively easy as most of the new CD burning applications already support SVCD. VCDs can be played on almost all standalone DVD players and on all computers with a DVD-ROM or CD-ROM drives, with the help of a software-based decoder/player.
